Year 1888

Count Sergei Alexandrovich Stroganov acquires two Arabian stallions and nine mares during a journey to Syria and the North Arabian Desert.

1889
Year 1889

Count Sergei Alexandrovich Stroganov, during his journey through the East with his sister Olga and her husband Prince Shcherbatov, makes the fateful decision to establish the "Grafsky Khutor" stud farm at the foot of Mount Zmeyka near Mineralnye Vody.

1899
Year 1899

The stud farm already has 9 breeding stallions and 21 broodmares. In total, including young stock, there were 66 purebred Arabian horses at the farm.

1901
Year 1901

The breeding stock of the stud farm exceeds 100 purebred Arabian horses, including 12 stallions and 32 mares. In the first studbook published in Tsarist Russia, "Grafsky Khutor" is listed as the only farm conducting Arabian breed selection "in purity."

Year 1913

First participation and victories of the stud farm's horses at agricultural exhibitions in Rostov-on-Don and later in Moscow.

1915
Year 1915

The "Grafsky Khutor" stud farm was repurposed for cavalry horse production, and by 1920 not a single horse remained from the original breeding stock.

Year 1921

Signing of the decree establishing the Tersk Military Stud Farm (on the territory of the Grafsky estate) for breeding Arabian horses for cavalry officers.

Year 1922

By decree of Marshal Semyon Mikhailovich Budyonny, Tersk becomes State Military Stud Farm No. 169.

1923
Year 1923

The First All-Russian Agricultural and Handicraft-Industrial Exhibition in Moscow, where the stud farm team and stallion Tsilindr receive the Grand Silver Medal.

1925
Year 1925

Tersk Stud Farm receives "breeding" status and begins intensive selection work. Initially focused on restoring the Strelets breed, but due to the scarcity of surviving horses, the decision was made to concentrate on the purebred Arabian.

1926
Year 1926

26 Shagya-Arabian broodmares and half-Arabian crossbreeds along with two stallions arrive from Hungary, forming the foundation of the Tersk breed.

1930
Year 1930

Six purebred Arabian mares and stallion Kann arrive from France, laying the foundation for independent Arabian horse breeding in the Soviet Union.

1932
Year 1932

The beginning of racing for "Eastern breed" horses in the USSR, with Tersk Stud Farm horses participating. Despot became the first winner.

1936
Year 1936

25 Arabian horses are imported from England to Tersk Stud Farm: 6 stallions and 19 mares, which were incorporated into the breeding program.

1939
Year 1939

All-Union Agricultural Exhibition. The stud farm team is awarded the Silver Medal for the restoration of the Strelets breed. That same year, a large group of trophy Arabian horses was brought from Poland.

1941
Year 1941

The entire horse population of the stud farm is evacuated to Western Kazakhstan, where, despite the harsh conditions of herd management, the Arabian horses were preserved.

1945
Year 1945

Marshal Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov rode the Tersk breed stallion Kumir, raised at our stud farm, during the Victory Parade. That same year, it was decided that Tersk Stud Farm would exclusively breed purebred Arabian horses.

1947
Year 1947

For the first time, the most prestigious traditional prizes begin to be held "in purity." The legendary Priboy wins the All-Russian Derby at the Pyatigorsk Hippodrome. That same year, 9 valuable Arabian mares from Germany are transferred to Tersk from Kirov Stud Farm.

1949
Year 1949

The new breed created at the stud farm is officially named "Tersk," and the stud farm is awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour for its contribution to the breed's development.

1952
Year 1952

Helsinki. The first Summer Olympics with Soviet athletes participating. Tersk stallion Tsezar, ridden by Nikolai Alekseevich Sitko, represented the USSR in these competitions.

1953
Year 1953

Cavalry in the Soviet Army was abolished. All Military Stud Farms, including Tersk, were transferred to the Ministry of Agriculture. A massive reduction of horse populations across the country began.

1954
Year 1954

The All-Union Agricultural Exhibition resumes in Moscow. Through 1960, the farm's horses become champions: Pomeranets and Nabor, Ptashka and Ponton, Taktika and Platina brought home Gold medals!

1955
Year 1955

Tersk exports Arabian horses abroad for the first time: stallion Kolos to India, stallion Kupidon and mare Plotina are sent as gifts to Yugoslav President Josip Tito.

1957
Year 1957

Vladimir Petrovich Shamborant joins the stud farm and the Turkmen division is formed. Akhal-Teke horses born here became breed standards.

1960
Year 1960

VDNKh opens. Arabian horses from Tersk Stud Farm become favorites for beauty and harmony, winning Gold and Silver Medals through the last VDNKh of the USSR in 1987.

1963
Year 1963

Stallion Rafaat was gifted to Khrushchev and, under the name Aswan, entered world Arabian horse breeding as one of the finest stallions of the 20th century.

1967
Year 1967

"Russian Arabians" first attracted attention at the Royal Show in London, where mare Napraslina took first place. Interest in Tersk Arabians from Europe and the USA grew significantly.

1970
Year 1970

The beginning of annual horse auctions of southern USSR at Tersk Stud Farm. The auctions were later moved to the Netherlands under the brand "Tersk-Kossack Sale."

1976
Year 1976

Persik becomes Champion of France in endurance, later becoming a legendary sire of world-class endurance horses.

1980
Year 1980

Muscat becomes Champion of the USA, Canada, and the prestigious Scottsdale show. The title of "European Champion" is awarded to stallion Muslin and mare Penza.

1989
Year 1989

Stallion Komplekt becomes Silver World Champion, and two years later claims the Palm of Victory and the World Champion "crown."

1991
Year 1991

Royal families of the UAE and Qatar acquire horses from Tersk Stud Farm for their breeding programs. Their descendants successfully compete at racetracks across Europe and the Middle East.

1994
Year 1994

Stallion Kubinets becomes European Champion and World Champion. He later receives the international titles of "Elite" and "Five-Star Sire" of the Arabian breed.

2000
Year 2000

The First Russian Championship was held at the Pyatigorsk Hippodrome, where Tersk horses dominated: Piligrim, Madyar, Marmeladka, Vakkhanka, Maskarad, Bibliya, and Albatros claimed victories.

2003
Year 2003

For the first time in Russia, a show is held according to international standards. Tersk Stud Farm is awarded the "Pearl Cross" for breeding work with the Arabian breed.

2007
Year 2007

Tersk Stud Farm celebrates its 110th anniversary. Over this time, more than 5,000 purebred Arabian horses have been raised.

2011
Year 2011

Tersk Stud Farm becomes a member of the World Arabian Horse Organization (WAHO). This is recognition of the high quality of its breeding work.

2012
Year 2012

A major reconstruction of the historic stables and riding arena is completed. Modern conditions are created for horse keeping and competitions.

2019
Year 2019

Opening of the new Tersk Stud Farm history museum. The exhibition tells the story of over a century of Arabian horse breeding in the North Caucasus.

2020
Year 2020

Platinum World Champion stallion Baanderos arrives at the stud farm, a gift from King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia to President Putin. During his breeding period at Tersk, 16 promising foals were produced. In November 2023, Baanderos was transferred to Qatar to the "Rawdat E'Thanya" stud farm, where he continues his breeding career and participated in the World Arabian Horse Festival in Doha.

Tersk Stud Farm continues the traditions of Arabian horse breeding, preserving unique lines and families. Tersk horses successfully compete in international competitions.

2024
Year 2024

An exceptional quality group of horses and deep-frozen semen was donated to the Stud Farm from Qatar.

2025
Year 2025

Reconstruction of the entrance area, central alley, and breeding stable was completed. The Reception House was built.
